I grew up in a household that valued serving others. My weekends were often spent volunteering or attending community events.
Let’s face it though, community building is hard work. Often there are people behind the scenes doing much of that hard work for free or with minimal resources. They have grit and are determined to make a difference. Serving side-by-side with them helped shape how I navigated my career in a professional workplace. Now that I have my own family, it is important that I share my knowledge and lead by example.
Getting involved in my local government was a natural next step for me to continue serving my community as a Commissioner. Last year, the Tempe City Council appointed me as a member of the Community Working Group (#CWG), assisting staff working on the goals, objectives, and strategies for the General Plan 2050 elements to accommodate city growth and character of development over the next 30 years. It has been a very rewarding experience so far and enjoy providing input.
Now it’s your turn! Here’s your chance to review the General Plan before it goes to voters! Your feedback will help shape the future of Tempe and ensure that it is a city that is vibrant, livable, and sustainable for generations to come. View the draft plan and share your feedback at http://tempe.gov/2050
