Parents play a crucial role in their children’s education at Montessori schools. When my kid’s school opened, an incredible group of caregivers joined forces to create a parent and teacher organization called the Meyer Montessori Parent and Teacher Organization (MMPTO). This volunteer-run group has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support our children’s learning experience. Their dedication has made a significant impact on our school and the students. I am proud to have led this community for two years and want to express my gratitude to all the past and present volunteers.
The MMPTO is a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing our children’s educational journey. Led by board members, the group acts as a bridge between the school and the community. They fundraise, organize free events, and support various initiatives and programs. Their leadership has a positive impact by providing resources, fostering a sense of community, and improving communication between families and educators. I attended PTO meetings and was amazed by the passion and diversity of this group. Little did I know that I would end up managing the MMPTO. But as the world emerged from the pandemic, I realized the importance of community building and supporting our kids and teachers. I became the board President in 2021 and initiated efforts to rebuild.
In addition to community building, the PTO plays a crucial role in expressing gratitude to educators and providing them with support throughout the school year. We host various events to thank teachers for their hard work. This year, our fundraising efforts were outstanding. We not only met but exceeded our goal of $10,000, raising almost $13,000! Thanks to our generous community, we have been able to address critical needs in our school. The funds have been used to provide essential classroom supplies and create an enriching learning environment. We also allocated funds for teachers and support staff hospitality, community events, teacher gifts, and meals. Our educators feel appreciated and supported, thanks to these initiatives.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the board for their incredible service. To Ashley Donovan, Jessica Jerrell, Lauren Iwan, and Reyna Bovée; you are all amazing! It has been an honor to collaborate with you, and I will be cheering on your efforts this year. Your dedication, skills, ideas, time, and guidance have shaped the future of our PTO and the education of our children.
The commitment, tireless efforts, and dedication of our community have made a lasting impact on our school and our children’s lives. Thank you for your exceptional work and countless hours devoted to ensuring the success of our students. The PTO has become an invaluable asset, fostering collaboration and support among parents, caregivers, and teachers. Keep up the great work!
With appreciation,
Myrna Baez, outgoing MMPTO Board President
